The Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association is offering a preapprenticeship program from Aug. 26 to Nov. 16 as part of GHRA’s workforce development plan.
According to a press release, the 12-week training program is free and focuses on key foundational areas for further skills development of incumbent employees and potentially new job creation for entry-level jobs in the tourism industry.
Five training courses will be offered; they're developed by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) START (Skills, Tasks, and Results Training) in areas of facilities maintenance, kitchen cook, guest room attendant, front desk representative, and restaurant server; as these positions were identified as most needed skill sets of the industry. Occupational health and safety and digital marketing courses also will be offered.
Participants will receive the materials and have four hours of instructional class time per week. Upon completion participants will receive a recognized Certificate of Completion from GHRA and Guam Department of Labor, the option to obtain a national certification from AHLEI registered courses, and required licenses for employment. Deadline to register is Aug. 9. For registration and more information, contact GHRA at 649-1447, email at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit at www.ghra.org.
