The Guam Visitors Bureau will hold the first #instaGuam Travel Talks Digital Global Summit at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort today in Tumon.

The one-day event will focus on how digital trends influence travel, and specifically on how social media affects "how people travel and what they choose to do while they are on the ground,” said Paul Brady, editorial strategist with Skift, a company headquartered in New York City that researches, analyzes, and reports on travel.

Brady said people are finding inspiration though social media more than ever before. He said social media can be important to people's awareness of brands and destinations – making sure people know about unique experiences and who is offering them.

“It is also helpful in that you can push people to do things that are outside of their comfort zone – having a cultural interaction or cultural moment that they can’t find anywhere else – because in tourism what you are really selling is your culture and the uniqueness of your destination” Brady said.

Brady is one of the speakers at the summit, along with local and regional social media influencers, and presenters from well-known names in the travel industry, such as Airbnb, Booking.com and TripAdvisor.
