Friars top National Forensic League competition

GOING TO DALLAS: Father Duenas Memorial School garnered the most titles at the islandwide National Forensic League competition for school year 2018-2019. Under coach Jovie Manzanilla, Ron Rocky Coloma, a junior and captain of his team, won first place in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Category. Brian Songco, a junior, won first place in the Original Oratory Category, and Pompeyo Barroga, a sophomore, won first place in the Humorous Interpretation Category. From June 16 to 21, they will represent the island in Dallas, Texas, at the National Speech and Debate Tournament. Established in 1925, the National Speech and Debate Association hosts the largest academic competition in the world that unites a motley of determined students in competitive speech and debate. In a variety of categories, students are able to enhance their critical-thinking skills, develop their communication prowess as well as their persuasion abilities.
