SAIPAN - Dumping household trash in public places is a recurring problem, especially at the cemetery in Chalan Kanoa.

Community volunteer Max Aguon said during his recent cleanup in the area, he saw “used clothes, diapers, cans, beer bottles, and other garbage from the kitchen.”

“How can we make our island beautiful if people are improperly disposing of their trash?” Aguon said the Department of Public Safety should patrol the cemetery area more frequently and issue citations to those who violate the anti-littering law.

Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang said it is “so sad that some people just have no respect at all for our cemetery.”

He said community members should cooperate to maintain the beauty and cleanliness of the island.
