Saipan officials are reminding the community to help keep island litter free after citing a man who was caught off-loading construction and demolition waste from his vehicle while on government property in Koblerville.
On July 26, a litter control apprehending officer from the Saipan mayor’s office issued the littering citation and a summons, with a fine of $25, according to a press release from the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality. The violator had to immediately remove the debris from the site and dispose of it properly at the Marpi landfill.
The violation was determined to be base simple violation; it was the violators’ first violation and the violation was not committed within any sensitive areas.
In addition to the mayor's office, other agencies mandated to enforce litter laws are, the BECQ, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Public Health, Department of Public Works, Commonwealth Zoning Office, Department of Public Lands, and Department of Public Safety.
