A 13-year-old middle school student died following a possible drowning Saturday, authorities confirmed yesterday.
When Guam Fire Department officials arrived, lifeguards assigned to Ypao Beach had started administering CPR on the boy, on shore, according to GFD.
GFD provided transfer care and transport of the 13-year-old to Guam Memorial Hospital.
Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola said he hadn't conducted an autopsy as of early yesterday.
The boy, a seventh-grader, became the second student to die in Guam waters in the past few weeks.
Southern High School senior Joey Topasna died in waters off Dadi Beach on the Navy base while spear fishing last month.
A sophomore paddler at John F. Kennedy High School, Jake Gombar, died last month at Matapang Beach, but his death wasn't drowning-related.
