Casting the talaya in Tumon

BIBA: A fisherman casts his talaya, or fishing net, in Tumon Bay as seen from the Two Lovers Point overlook on Thursday, Feb. 25. The director of the Department of Agriculture announced at the start of the month that the use of a talaya from the shore is permitted in Tumon.

Officials have said that the continued use of the talaya is important both for food security during this public health emergency as well as for cultural educational purposes to ensure this traditional fishing practice continues for future generations. David Castro/The Guam Daily Post
