The FBI recently conducted a monthlong nationwide sweep for sex traffickers that resulted in multiple arrests around the country, including Guam.

Operation Independence Day was launched at the beginning of July, according to a post on the FBI website. It resulted in dozens of arrests across the country, as well as the identification and recovery of more than 100 juvenile victims of sex trafficking.

One of the operations on Guam freed a juvenile girl from an alleged sex trafficker.

The FBI-led operation included nearly 20 investigators from the FBI, Guam Police Department, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Coast Guard Investigative Service and Homeland Security Investigations.

“The effort resulted in a federal case against a 33-year-old man who allegedly trafficked a minor girl to a 48-year-old man in exchange for cash and drugs,” according to the posting on the FBI website.

The names of the alleged sex trafficker and his client are not revealed in the FBI's post. No information is provided about the condition of the girl and no further details on where or what day the operation occurred.

Michele Ernst, spokeswoman for the FBI on Guam, told The Guam Daily Post, "The recovery of the juvenile and identification of the sex trafficker is now part of an ongoing investigation, so we cannot provide any further details at this time."
