The newest Pay-Less Market location is "tentatively" set to open next week, stated Kathy R. Calvo, president of Pay-Less Markets Inc.

She said the opening is contingent on weather conditions and "one last sign-off."

The new store is on Route 8 in Maite in the former Market Wholesale building next to Benson’s Hardware.

It will be the eighth Pay-Less Market on the island.

Calvo said renovations took about 15 months to complete. The new building covers 45,000 square feet of floor space with 31,000 square feet of retail space.

New market deli with poke bar

A new Market Deli department at the store will be managed by Chef Dennis Salenga and will feature both hot and cold entrées, a poke bar, fresh sliced meats and cheeses, fresh salads and sandwiches. Fresh breads, cakes and pastries will be available at the location's bakery.

An 8-foot locker of dry aged beef will be a first for the island supermarket, Calvo said.

106 parking spaces

The store has 106 parking spaces available exclusively to Pay-Less customers.

A traffic light is being planned for the entrance to the Maite Pay-Less in the next few months, Calvo added.
