THE U.S. Navy is soliciting comments on the assessment of the effects of building an aviation maintenance hangar in the North Ramp area of Andersen Air Force Base, according to a release from Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific.
The area is to house a Marine aviation element as Marine units are relocated from Okinawa to Guam in keeping with the defense posture realignment agreements in place between the U.S. and Japan since 2006.
The high-bay maintenance hangar with parking for 105 vehicles, crew and equipment spaces, and administrative spaces will cover 15 acres. The deadline for comments is July 19. The solicitation of comments is in keeping with the March 2011 Programmatic Agreement among the Department of Defense and the governments of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
New information about projects related to the military relocation to Guam is available on the Cultural Resources Information website at http://goo.gl/5I25S. Residents can pick up a written description of this project and a mail-in comment sheet from the Guam Historic Resources Division in the Department of Parks and Recreation building in Agana Heights across from U.S. Naval Hospital Guam.
