Joint Region Marianas has confirmed that Rear Admiral (select) John V. Menoni has been tapped to replace Rear Admiral Shoshana Chatfield as Commander of Joint Region Marianas.
Capt. Menoni's promotion to Rear Admiral was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in March and it takes effect later this month.
Menoni is currently serving as an executive assistant in the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations office in Washington D.C.
Chatfield has been named president of the Naval War College. She will be the first woman to lead that institution.
The change of Command Ceremony is scheduled for July 23.
Menoni, like Chatfield, served as the commanding officer of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 here on Guam. He was stationed at HSC-25’s command headquarters at Andersen Air Force Base from May 2006 to September 2008.
Menoni attended naval flight training in Pensacola, Florida. He received his wings in October 1993. He is qualified as a pilot in both the H-46 Seaknight and MH-60S Kinghthawk
After Guam Menoni went on to serve at the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command in Suffolk Virginia from August 2008 to October 2012.
From December 2012 until July 2015 he served as the Commanding Officer of the USS San Diego, an amphibious transport ship.
His next assignment was to Naval Forces Europe in Naples Italy where he served as Coordination Officer and Executive Assistant between October 2015 and September 2017.
Menoni graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana in 1991 where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics. He later earned a certificate in Systems Analysis from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey California.
