Young ladies from Guam and across Micronesia visit Palau Aquarium

The Palau Aquarium was host to a group of young women on Jan. 5, 2020. The group, which included representatives from the islands of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, and Guam, were in Palau to attend the 2020 Teen Girls and Young Ladies Conference and Retreat in Koror, Palau, from Jan. 2-5, 2020. The conference was hosted by the Guam Micronesia Mission Women’s Ministry Department and the SDA Church Women Ministry.

The girls had the opportunity to explore Palau Aquarium guided by its director, Ms. Ilebrang Olkeriil, and all the Aquarium staff. The tour was included as part of the conference in order to educate about Palau’s ecosystems and its globally recognized conservation efforts, as well as build a better appreciation of the environment. One of the girls who visited, Ms. Gina Anuntak from the Marshall Islands, said that “It’s really amazing all the different things you have. I’m from the Marshall Islands, and for example, the trees that you have here, and how their roots work, and all the little fishes, are different from our islands. It’s super interesting that another island can have such different things.” In addition to Palau Aquarium, the group also assisted at local farms, and visited the local hospital, making a donation there.

Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) would like to thank the Guam Micronesia Mission Women’s Ministry Department and the participants in the conference for their visit and welcome them to return whenever they are back in Palau, to experience again the wonders that the Palau Aquarium has to offer.
