The University of Guam women’s varsity basketball team on Tuesday lost its PBS Guam Women’s Basketball League game to Fuetsa Women’s Basketball Club, 67-52.
The Tritons, 2-1, lost for the first time this season in front of a crowd of about seven or eight spectators at the UOG Calvo Field House in Mangilao.
The Tritons, trailing 27-23 at halftime, remained close but a rugged Fuetsa performance in the third period was more than they could handle. In the period, Fuesta outscored UOG, 25-8.
Despite three Tritons dropping in double digits (Danica Cabrera 13, Jan-Nasia Tavilla 11, Shania Bulala 10) Fuetsa’s Taneea Henderson stole the show. The Guam High School Panther sophomore dropped in 20 points. Teammate Elysia Perez, with six 3-pointers, chipped in with 19 points to keep Fuetsa undefeated in league play.
Niah Siguenza pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds, and Page Persha grabbed 11 rebounds, stated a news release.
In the first game of the evening, Team Legends defeated UOG Tridents, 54-50.
Yvonne Manglona, with 12 points, led the Legends. Teammates Theresa Sison and Carol Cruz chipped in with 10 points each.
For the Tridents, UOG’s club team, Izzy Abad scored 26 points.
