The Dededo Yellow Jackets Blue rallied behind a late bucket from Jayda Tinoso to take a 17-16 victory over Southside United in their U15 matchup in the GYBA Drug Free Youth Summer Basketball League Thursday night at Astumbo gym.
Southside's Reanne Sinel and Ansilie Sarselejo quickly got things going for the southern team, racking up back-to-back baskets to take an 11-5 lead going into the half.
The Jackets capitalized behind a few key baskets from Jodee Halili when Southside's Sarsalejo went to the bench for an ankle injury, climbing back in to get within four in the final quarter.
Down by three, the Jackets' Halili picked up a loose ball to find the back of the net. In the final seconds of the game and a mad scramble on the floor for possession, it was Tinoso who emerged from the scuffle, throwing up a Hail Mary over the taller Southside players for the kiss off the glass.
Up by 1, the Jackets stole the ensuing possession and played keep-away to pocket the victory. Halili led the Jackets with 8 points, while Sinel led Southside with 10 in the loss.
