If getting up early is your thing, the Rotary Club of Guam Sunrise has the perfect event for you.
The RCG Sunrise is inviting all avid runners, walkers and pets of all kinds to its 4th annual 5K/2K Run/Walk and 2K Pet Run/Walk this Saturday.
“Helping to create a healthy community is important to our club,” said Bobbie G. Leon Guerrero, president, RCG Sunrise. "Our RCG Sunrise members recognize that the canine members of our household could benefit from the outdoor activity as well as provide an additional incentive for families to participate together, so we have included a pet walk to our event.”
Keeping in line with the Rotary's mission to provide service to others, the funds raised through this event will be used to alleviate costs for its various community projects, which include the Fallen Brave Scholarship Program. This is a $1,000 scholarship for a graduating senior pursuing postsecondary education at an accredited institution. This memorial scholarship was created to honor military service members from Micronesia who have died as a result of service in a Department of Defense declared combat theater.
The race features a flat course that starts and ends at Chamorro Village in Hagåtña. The 2K Pet Run/Walk will wind its way around Paseo Stadium and Guerrero Field. The event will feature staggered starts to accommodate the three races. Show time is 5 a.m. with a 6 a.m. start time for the 5K, 6:05 a.m. start time for the 2K and a 6:15 a.m. start time for the 2K Pet Run/Walk.
Medals will be given to the top finishers in each event and free T-shirts for the first 300 racers to cross the finish line. This year's grand prize is two round-trip tickets on China Airlines to Taipei, Taiwan.
