The Guam Women’s National Baseball Team will hold open tryouts this weekend at Paseo Stadium.

Keith Hattig, Team Guam head coach, is looking to fill his roster before the 2020 Hong Kong Baseball Association's Phoenix Cup next February.

Joining Hattig, Paul Pangelinan, Coby Barnes, and Pat Fejeran comprise the veteran coaching staff.

“I’m really interested to see who comes out for tryouts,” said Hattig, who expects a blend of veterans and young players to fill the 20 roster spots.

Hattig, focusing on developing strong pitching and catching, knows a strong battery is crucial in tournament play. He also understands that players have other obligations such as jobs, families, and kids; but expects commitment from his players.

Hattig said, “I think a little bit of sacrifice,” is key to fielding a team.

“Our time is minimal, so we have to find time to practice,” he said. “Hopefully, it’s a start. We will see what we can do, and it opens the door to more girls playing.”
