World Theater Productions donated $10,000 to the University of Guam Endowment Foundation Friday to sponsor scholarships for student-athletes in the Triton Athletics varsity sports programs – men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer and women's soccer.

The donation offered an infusion into the growing university program, which has grown to field several varsity sports.

The donation was made possible thanks to WTP's hosting of "Mamma Mia!" this past weekend, which featured an award-winning cast that performed to a packed house during the three-day showcase.

Each UOG varsity sport will receive $2,500 of scholarship funds to give to student-athletes either in 2019-20 or in 2020-21. The funds should result in 12-15 scholarships for Triton Athletics to give in the next two years.

The main mission of the UOG Endowment Foundation is to foster and promote the growth, progress and general welfare of the University of Guam by soliciting, receiving and administering resources to empower and support the university.

To date, WTP has donated more than $16,000 to local nonprofit organizations. The show was sponsored by Dusit Thani Guam Resort and Outrigger Guam Beach Resort.

WTP is a platform for professional artists from around the world to share their talents to enhance theater production on island and hone local talents who seek to get into the field of entertainment.
